Caitlin Kerk launched Kerk Communications in 1997 to provide nonprofit agencies
and other public benefit organizations with quality marketing communications
services at competitive prices.
Caitlin
is first and foremost a writer. She has been writing about
health and social issues, and promoting great causes, for
nearly 20 years. For more than a decade, she has served a
wide variety of clients in a number of capacities through
Kerk Communications.
Before
starting Kerk Communications, Caitlin served as statewide
communications director for the American Lung Association
of California. There she conducted a variety of media advocacy
campaigns, including a statewide media blitz that successfully
rallied public support against legislation that would have
ended smoke-free bars in California.
She
coordinated communications activities for the 17 American
Lung Association offices across the state and created marketing
plans and collateral materials, including a statewide quarterly
magazine. She also worked at the Santa Clara County office
of the American Lung Association, where she restructured
the public relations department to focus on news and built
an impressive track record of media placements.
Between
her stints at the local and state offices of the American
Lung Association, Caitlin worked at a public relations firm
in San Jose. There she developed and implemented strategic
communications plans and public relations campaigns under
tight budget constraints for nonprofit accounts that included
the Santa Clara County Social Services Agency, EMQ Children
and Family Services, and a residential community for seniors.
The
former newspaper reporter and editor graduated in 1985 from
San Jose State University with a degree in journalism and
a minor in political science. Her education includes coursework
in public relations and documentary filmmaking. |
